Seeing Tokyo Solo (Part 1) - Meeting Up with Old Friends

Today I woke up at six and watched Jordan begin the long journey home. I quickly went back to bed and even after I woke for the day I took things easy.

I had difficulty sleeping last night at first. My knees felt like there were shards of glass behind each knee cap and getting comfortable enough to sleep was a challenge.

I decided to take things easy today. Over the last few days I was beginning to worry that I may be doing some lasting damage so a day of recovery is definitely needed. I took the time to catch up on emails and Facebook and figure out the itinerary for my last three days.

Before I knew it it was 3 o'clock. Time to head out to see the world. I went back to Akihabara to do a bit more exploring into the shops. I'm glad I did because I discovered the whole world of old school video games. It was so tempting to buy a system and a few games to bring home and add to my collection but I don't have that much cash left. I was safe for a while until I saw they took credit card, then I had to leave the store just to save my bank account.

Soon enough it was time to get back on the train and meet up with my old boss Hiro. He was definitely a sight for sore eyes. He brought me to a yakiniku place which was barbecue meat at the table and all you can drink. And oh boy did I drink. After we were done there he brought us to some Italian place where we had another beer. It was great to hang out with Hiro and I was so glad that my other former coworkers (Tee, Yoshi, and Keiko) could join.

The ride home was a bit difficult. Hiro walked me to the train and said goodbye, promising to let me know when he'll be in New York. I got on the correct train just fine, it was getting off that was the issue. I slept right through my stop and had to get off and turn around. I also switched to the green loop line just in case I fell asleep again. Finally I got to my train station but I got lost on the way back to the hostel (which is only four blocks away). I was starting to feel pretty sick from all the beer but kept it together.

Waking up early this morning was far from pleasant. Every movement I made threatened a violent upsurge. It took me some time to recover.

Originally my plan for today was to go to the fish market and although it's still early enough to go the thought of eating still makes me feel a little queasy. So it's fish market tomorrow before the airport and bicycle and shopping today. Maybe a river cruise while I'm at it.
