Seeing Tokyo Solo (Part 2) - Cycling in Tokyo and Shopping at the Pokemon Center

I felt bad letting the whole day go to waste. There may not be that much time left in Japan but at the same time there is not much else that I have not done yet. Obviously with my late and hungover start to the day, the fish market and sushi in Tsukiji was off of the itinerary. Instead I decided to continue with the other things on my list - renting a bike and seeing more of the city.

The weather was not great today. Overcast and drizzling off an on throughout the day. I guess Jordan took the good weather with him back to New York. I found the directions to the bike shop and started on my way. I quickly got lost and had to come back to the hostel to look again. Now with a better sense of where this place was I set off again. It started to rain a bit but I was not going to let that stop me. After a bit of walking I finally found the shop and the nice guy running it. He gave me a bike and a lock and I paid him 200Y for two hours of two wheeled fun.

I set off in no direction in particular and then found a map. I figured that I should head south since that is where the most stuff is. After an hour of riding around I decided to try and head back. Much easier said then done. I did not pay attention at all to where I was going and soon enough I was so lost that I was not sure if I would make it back to the bike shop at all much less by the end of my two hours. Lots of stopping to check maps and slowly weaving my way through the pedestrians. It is funny because it was not riding in traffic that nearly killed me nor was it the pedestrians but it was the other cyclists. They would get right in my path and then give me a dumb look like there was not a single thought in their skull as I gave them a dirty look.

On my way back to the bike shop I stopped at the conbini. With only half a day left it was time to stock up on Japanese snacks to bring home and to work. I figured I would get what my coworkers usually bring back (or something similar to it) as well as a few extras that I found interesting. I also made it my mission to pick up every kind of pocky I could find. Thankfully there was also a post office near the conbini and I could mail out my postcards. It was nice - I did not have to say a word just hand over the postcards and the money and off they went.

After dropping off the bike I headed back to the hostel again. All that riding had made me hungry so I found another convenience store in the area of the hostel and got some katsu and dimsum pork dumplings. I also found more snacks of course. I also found a supermarket - Jordan if you are reading this then we really missed out on that one. Not only do they take credit card but they also have the 78Y water!! More snack purchases and then it was back to the hostel finally to drop off all my things and eat. I explored the common room slash kitchen which is in the basement and had a good time just being around some interesting characters.

It was still pretty early and I wondered what I could do to kill a bit more time and get another sight or activity in. A quick glance around the hostel reception slash computer area I saw a paper with Pikachu on it. A closer look showed that there is a Pokemon Center here in Tokyo. That was enough for me to know what I would be doing in the late afternoon.

The Pokemon Center did not disappoint. There was Pokemon themed things everywhere and a lot of things I had never seen before. I picked up a few small items for myself and my brother simply because I could not resist. I think I spent an hour just walking around in circles. They even had the Pokemon store song playing in the background. It was freakin awesome.

Now I am in for the night. Keeping it quiet, packing and preparing for the early morning fish market and my visit to the Tokyo office of my employer.
