Failing to Sleep on the Red Eye Flight to Wait in Chile

Map of Chile

I have successfully arrived in Chile and now it's time to play the waiting game.

The 8hr flight from Miami to Chile wasn't too bad. In fact I think I would rate the flight from New York to Miami much more painful. There was some kick ass entertainment stuff in the back of the headrest offering the latest movies, some whack TV shows, music, and light gaming. Naturally I went for the gaming first and was blasting away aliens when all of a sudden the entertainment system went out because their SQL server on the plane crashed. I thought I'd take that time to try to sleep, even though it was still early I thought that it may be more difficult later on. Well my hunch was correct because at one point between the hours of 3:30 and 4 in the morning I found myself to be the only person who wasn't sleeping on the plane. Everyone had curled up so nice and snug in their chairs with the pastel purple pillows and light fuchsia blankets where as I was wide awake and dying of thirst. That was my huge mistake, not stopping to get a giant bottle of water before boarding (a mistake which I continue to make as I sit here a mere 30 ft from the bar still dying of thirst).

I had tried everything - drinking, eating, watching Little Miss Sunshine (a movie I can recite by heart), playing Invaders, music, audio book, real book - nothing worked. Finally at 5am I passed out for the last hour of the flight and awoke to the rustling of passengers trying to disembark. They all actually got to sleep.

So now I sit here, in Santiago, chillin in Chile with my pilfered internet connection. If I can find a tall drink, a corner to pass out in and where my next flight will be leaving from (its so early that they haven't even posted that info) then I'm all set.

Damn it feels nice to be back in a Spanish speaking country.

  1. Dude you are whacked. Everyone knows that they need to drink prior, during and after any extended flight. Then again if you were in FIRST CLASS you would not have had that problem. PIMP. Good luck with the rest of your flights.
